Winthrop School Committee raises preschool tuition to $8,000 for full-day enrollment

WINTHROP — March 17, 2025 — Winthrop School Committee sets preschool tuition at $8,000 full-day, $4,000 half-day for the coming year. The committee voted unanimously Monday night to adopt rates recommended by its budget subcommittee following a review of roughly 15 comparable public and private programs in the region. Staff noted the new fees still fall below market rates at private daycare centers operating longer daily hours, and that tuition revenue does not cover staffing costs at either program level. The full-day program, which has 20 seats with 15 reserved for general education students, already conducted a lottery this spring due to excess demand, with eight families placed on a waiting list. The committee also approved a payroll warrant of $910,639.25 and a regular warrant of $343,730.28, and is expected to take up the full FY26 school budget at its next meeting.
