School Committee · Meeting of October 19, 2026

WINTHROP — The Winthrop School Committee voted unanimously to keep the high school's annual international trip unsponsored by the district. Acting on a recommendation from its Athletics, Facilities, Extracurricular and Out-of-School Subcommittee, members approved a motion stating the trip "would recommend to the full committee that we do not" make it school-sponsored. The committee also approved a sick-time buyback for retiring special education teacher Mariana Parada, a 25-year veteran at the ATC, and signed off on warrants totaling $351,761.40 and two payroll warrants of $971,178.85 and $997,271.11.

Members approved a draft of the district's revised District Curriculum Accommodation Plan, cut from roughly 30 pages to 14, calling it "so clear" and "so concise." The superintendent said the shortened plan is required by law but does not need committee approval.
