Select Board · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Winthrop Town Council swore in seven police officers and a new chief, then voted to grant a drainage easement for a $4.5 million stormwater project. Town Clerk Denise Quist administered oaths to new officers including Vanessa LaFong, Christopher Micicci and Sean Conley, and to incoming Chief Stephen Rogers, succeeding retiring Chief Goodwin after 34 years. The council voted 8-0, with Costigan absent, to grant Pleasant Park Yacht Club a permanent easement for the project and separately voted 8-0 to require ordinance postings on the town website as well as in the newspaper.
Councilor Tassaneri said the town is "forced to do this other easement because the previous easement for the drainage of the same watershed is inaccessible." State Rep. Jeff Turco won council approval to install QR codes on utility poles honoring 49 local veterans, searchable now at winforveterans.com. Bids for a townwide parking and traffic study ranged from $137,000 to $439,000.
