WINTHROP — The Winthrop Firehouse Building Committee heard that G&R Construction of Hanover was selected as lowest responsible bidder for the new fire station at $23,943,000. Owner's project manager Dan told members the figure includes a $90,000 adjustment after a competing bidder's subcontractor flagged a math error before the bid deadline. Combined with the early site package, the project total reached $27,579,000, while contingency grew from $2,590,000 to $4,909,000.
G&R president Bob Morell said the firm plans to mobilize around October 1 and enclose the building by December, calling the site "tight" but manageable. During public comment, Precinct 4 resident Jack Dogg argued the firehouse parcel remains protected parkland under "Article 97, disposition of land." The committee next meets October 5 at 4:30 p.m.
