Winthrop sets April 5 date for Proposition 2½ override ballot vote
WINTHROP — January 27, 2025 — Winthrop School Committee confirms April 5 as the date for a Proposition 2½ override vote. The Town Council voted the previous week to accept the override questions proposed by the School Committee and to place them on a Saturday ballot alongside a debt-exclusion question for a new firehouse, Superintendent Powell reported at the January 27 meeting. The committee also approved more than $2.26 million across four financial warrants, including payroll warrants of $902,676.54 and $860,908.91. Powell announced the hire of Robert Niblett as assistant principal of Gorman Fort Banks, effective February 3, citing his 30 years of experience and background in special education. The Policy Subcommittee reported it will bring technology acceptable-use, buildings-and-grounds, and social media policies to a vote at the next meeting, while deferring an AI policy pending state-level guidance.
