Winthrop School Committee Accepts Assistant Superintendent's Resignation, Eyes Restructuring

WINTHROP — November 17, 2025 — Winthrop School Committee accepts the resignation of Assistant Superintendent Laurie Gallivan, who is leaving for Lynn Public Schools. Superintendent Lisa Bertolino told the committee Monday she and Gallivan have worked together for more than 13 years and called the departure a significant loss, saying she would return with a reorganization plan rather than a straightforward replacement. The committee approved two financial warrants totaling $1,470,198.81, with two members abstaining on the $924,632.44 payroll warrant. Bertolino also reported that a school-safety mapping project with the Winthrop Police Department and a group called the Critical Incident Group is roughly three-quarters complete and expected to be fully grant-funded, and that about $28,000 in special education grant money will pay for Orton-Gillingham literacy certification for 26 staff members. Newly elected committee members Shannon Kubrick, Leslie Bassey, and Kenton Burroughs are set to take office in January.
